Our inspiration for the name KOLVEN the golf board game ?

KOLF was a game played by the fisherman in the Netherlands in the early 1300s.

This is why some of the older golf courses have their first 9 holes going towards the shore and why the other nine holes are going towards the village. This is also why on the scorecard you will see that the first 9 holes are called the OUT (out of the house) and the last 9 holes are called the IN (in to the house).

KOLF later became a competition that was played in festivals and celebrations in the Netherlands, as can be suggested on many drawings found on pottery, tiles and paintings.

The game:

2 teams of 4 players each, played with wooden sticks named a "KOLVEN" and wooden balls. The goal of the game was to reach a target in less strokes than the other teams, to gain a point.

The creation of KOLVEN the golf board game ?

The story behind the creation of KOLVEN The Golf Board Game, is a story of passion for the game of golf.

It all started when I was 12 years old. Very early in my life, I developed a huge passion for golf, but an even bigger one for golf design.

Every minute of free time that I had, I felt the urge to draw golf holes. Even to this day, my favorite pastime is to draw golf courses. (I like to call it "my little sickness").

My biggest dream has always been to get a chance to show my ideas, my creativity and to build golf courses.

KOLVEN was created because one day I decided to use a graph paper pad instead of a blank paper, when I looked at my drawing, an idea came up to me, and I ran upstairs to get dices and a pawn. I rolled the dice, advanced my pawn, then I made myself direction cards (fade & draw). I then made myself sand cards, water cards and rough cards.

I decided to make 18 holes on a cardboard to be able to test KOLVEN with friends and family. The test was a success and KOLVEN the golf board game was created.
